Local 2831 Statement on Minnesota ICE/CBP Related Shootings
We would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences to Alex Pretti and every single human being who has experienced violence directly or indirectly at the hands of ICE.
Alex was a VA intensive care unit nurse and a proud union member. He was one of our Union siblings.
Alex’s death came just one day after mass protests happened in Minneapolis, and across the United States, where people made their voices heard that they will not tolerate the terror ICE and CBP are inflicting on our country. The ICE and CBP agents involved in such atrocities must be held accountable for their violent actions.
What is happening in America under ICE and CBP is appalling and will not be tolerated. ICE is indiscriminately targeting workers, families and children. They are detaining our friends, our neighbors and our family members. This is not isolated to Minnesota or Maine. This past week a family was detained in Gresham, 100 miles north of Lane County, while seeking medical services for their child. We have seen ICE activity in Lane County as well where our working siblings of color have been indiscriminately targeted, followed, and detained.
Unions have historically been at the center of the fight against injustice in America and Local 2831 will not sit by quietly while our communities are torn apart. The ICE and CBP agents involved in these shootings and other operations need to be held accountable for their violent actions.
Below are some local events where you can join us and be heard!
We must remain united in action. Stay loud and stay safe!
